How do we work

Coffee and keyboards
Many people will remember that movie by Jim Jarmusch called "Coffee and cigarettes". In these days where smoking habits in Europe are changing so rapidly: from the "let's have a cigarette" to the "let's go down/out/in", countries like Spain or Italy are slowly exhaling the smoke out of bars and public places to glass cages or simply to the streets.

So far, coffee is not being kicked out of any environment (even though some people, including me, seem to have also addiction to it). But the combination coffee + cigarettes is surely losing its strength. In contrast, coffee is looking for new companions, such as newspapers, glasses of water or some other devices which can keep our hands busy while we enjoy the zips.

One of them, in times of the laptops, are precisely keyboards, screens and the mouse. Take away coffee, take away computers, all taken away, put in bags or in cups.

Am I really doing that?
It is already a stereotype picture of these days to see a person chatting by messenger with his workmate -who sits right behind him. However, the amount of situations which are so close to the oldest slapstick is bigger than that single one.

Last monday I couldn't find one of the postits I knew I had written because it was not on the fridge -my usual place for them- but on the computer (not on the screen but inside...).

But yes, this could end in a collection of jokes for Jerry Seinfield who surely had to retire as life just becomes sometimes too senseless -in that sense which comedy only can sense. However, situations where a box goes into another box are multiplying with the evolving use of computers; the programs for interior design are an example.

Of course a professional will use them for his/her works, and of course they can be useful -and they are- but let's just think of some situations where the end reaches the start.

Where am I?
Imagine you are at home, having your coffee (of course). You already quit smoking as the new laws just made you too lazy. At that point someone calls. You stand up and, when going to the front door you hit -one again- your head with the lamp. You open the door. It was just the postman.

While ending your coffee you start thinking of the lamp. Should it just be somewhere else? But then, would it fit? Should I just move something around here? Should I just change the whole structure of my home because of this lamp?!

You investigate a bit and end up getting some interior design program, as you heard about them and they seem so simple to use. So hands on, there you end, sitting on your kitchen, coffee and laptop, moving lamps and chairs with no mercy (and not breaking -at least- your back).

Answer
You are there; Sitting at your kitchen table, designing your kitchen and moving all your furniture, that lamp higher and higher. Just one thing missing on screen to see if it all fits. That would be  yourself, your own body sitting moving between the furniture. But that might just be a bit too much, could just happen like with the postits you lost earlier...
